Gum grafts are performed to treat receding gums or conceal exposed root surfaces. When the root of a tooth is exposed, the risk of developing cavities and/or hypersensitivity is greatly increased. Gum grafts are also performed for cosmetic purposes.
Certain factors promote gingival recession:
- Shape of the alveolar bone
- Misaligned teeth
- Thin gums
- Improper brushing technique
- Bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Inadequate dental restorations
Our dental team will regularly examine and probe your gums, monitor for changes and provide you with specific instructions or information as needed to prevent the onset of gingival recession.
